Friendship Cities
A Friendship City relationship is often established by cities as a “stepping stone” to a more formal Sister City agreement. A Friendship City agreement outlines exchanges in areas such as economic development, education, and culture, detailed in a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Mayor (or the highest municipal official) of the international city and the Mayor of Austin. Two years of continuous exchanges are required to establish the relationship before formally becoming Sister Cities.
