Austin's Sister City in Limerick
Welcome to the Austin-Limerick Sister City
A Unique Bond Across the Atlantic
In 2019, the vibrant cities of Austin, Texas, and Limerick, Ireland, officially launched a Sister City partnership, marking the beginning of a dynamic collaboration. Despite the challenges of the global pandemic, this relationship has flourished, evolving into a robust alliance that bridges cultures, fosters educational exchange, and promotes business innovation.
A Historic Milestone
On December 5, 2024, City of Limerick, Ireland, Mayor John Moran visited Austin to sign the official Sister City agreement with City of Austin Mayor Kirk Watson, formalizing this unique transatlantic partnership.
This historic achievement is particularly significant as Austin now has only two Sister Cities with diplomatic missions in town. The Austin-Limerick relationship is the second Sister City agreement established after a 50-year gap, further cementing the bond between these two vibrant communities.
The signing ceremony symbolized a shared commitment to fostering cultural, educational, and business exchanges, highlighting the importance of international collaboration in today’s interconnected world.
